It is a legal requirement for anyone carrying out gas work to be registered with the Gas Safe Register. This is the official registration body for gas safety in the home or workplace and list of gas engineers legally able to perform work in the UK.
What Do They Do?
They make sure that all of the 120,000 gas engineers on the register are gas safe and qualified to work with gas. They check the competence of the gas engineer, inspect their work, enforce regulations and deal with complaints about unsafe work. Their aim is to improve and maintain gas safety to the highest standards so that rogue traders do not get the chance to gamble with people’s lives.
Work that must be done by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer
Only a Gas Safe registered engineer is legally allowed to install, maintain, repair and service gas appliances, boilers, hobs, ovens or fires in your home and they must have a Gas Safe Register ID card.
